January is such a busy month....it flew by so fast. I've been making mostly white bread and sweet rolls this past month...not much to really write about. But I was blog surfing today and came across a delicious sounding recipe from a great site The Canadian Baker. She posted her entry for the Sugar Low Friday and it sounded so wonderful I just had to try it! The Honey Raisin Scones came out so well and I am so pleased I tried it. They came out wonderfully soft and with just the right amount of sweetness. I kind of killed the low sugar thing by adding some coarse sugar on top but I always like to add that on top of my sweet scones. I did also leave out the orange zest and add 2 tbsp. vanilla yogurt and a little vanilla extract, I think it added a wonderful flavor.

I think my next baking project will be a pie of some sort...I have a wonderful recipe for a butterscotch pie that is sounding better and better the more I think about it. I'll leave you with a pic of my sweet sleepy border collie:

Today is National Women's Heart Health Day...be kind to your heart and eat healthy!

O Christmas Tree

Happy Holidays!

Yay me! My first post :o)

I hope to join the ranks of all those awesome food bloggers who(m?) I read daily. I'm DoughGirl, so named for my all consuming love of baking! My dream is to be an artisan bread maker someday. But right now I just like to bake all things sweet: pies, cakes, cookies, pastries, muffins, scones...you name it, I like to bake it!

I set out to make my first food blog recipe, this yummy looking Yugoslovian cookie I found over at
Cooking with The Headhunter. The bottom of the cookie is a buttery, crumbly shortbread and the top is a mixture of walnuts, cinnamon and cloves. They were wonderful! My mother took some over to the hospital (she's is a nurse) and they were a huge hit in the breakroom. I'm already thinking of ways to tweak the recipe....maybe adding some dried cranberries and orange zest to the topping and cutting back on the cloves a little...or even ditching the spices all together and adding a layer of chocolate between the shortbread layer and the walnut layer. I am so glad I found this recipe and I will definitely be adding it to my recipe box!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lildoughgirl.blogspot.com/2005/12/yay-me-my-first-post-o.html' title='Yay me!
